Cooper Square Improprieties?

December 21, 2005

Hi, Dan,

I think you have a number of cogent points which are important and relevant.

To give you my take on these issues: Heretofore, it might be safe to say that the process of managing our affairs has been perhaps a wee bit out of control.

However, there is currently a major push underway to gain control of these various processes. For my part, I think the progress that has been made has been significant, and the efforts are headed towards success.

Of course, this is a generalized answer for very specific questions, which I expect you will not find satisfactory, and understandably so.

Which brings us -- I believe -- to the issue of reporting. I think it fair to say that an implicit part of the process of introducing process to an enterprise such as our cooperative would be to have effective and comprehensive reporting. Not pabulum, but substantial communication.

That said, it is an obvious thing to point out that our progress has not carried us that far. Yet.

Unfortunately, I am unable to answer your specific questions -- I just don't know the answers. I apologize for this.

So let me end on the note of reassuring you to the point that I think all of your questions are the kinds of quality inquiries that we need more of, and could have greatly benefited from over the years.

I urge you to continue asking them. I do not ask patience: The sense of urgency that most of us (if not all of us) have on the Board -- and share with you, and hopefully countless others -- would not benefit from apathy or discouragement or passivity. And, of course, you have a right to these answers.

-Eric
