The issue of security came up at last night’s
meeting, I am writing to follow up on some concerns
I have with regard to non-residents using SPHC property
and facilities. Non-residents on our property pose
serious concerns whether they be neighboring parents
with kids, older folks in our mens’ club, neighborhood
people using our washroom, or gangs of wandering hoods.
Issues relate to if someone got hurt on our property,
wear-and-tear to our property, ill-treatment of our
property, and the potential for criminal activity.
Some things that should, in my opinion, be considered
quickly include:
- Uncopyable keys, or electronic keys.
- Strict security policy not to buzz people in.
- Disable the “buy a new card” feature
in our laundry rooms, and if possible, electronic
correlation of laundry cards to apartments so that
‘lost’ cards can be disabled.
With regard to electronic access as are in use for
our gym, laundry room and garage, I think that usage
data should be collected even if not accessed. Such
data would be useful for the purpose of measuring
traffic/demand or addressing security concerns in
the future.
